Tobin Center for the Performing Arts
San Antonio, TX
Project Type: Plastering, Drywall
General Contractor: Linbeck/Zachary
The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, a fixture for arts and culture in the heart of downtown San Antonio, Texas, debuted its full-scale historic renovation in September featuring a multi-purpose 1,759-seat performance hall, a 250-seat studio theater, and an outdoor performance plaza connected to the River Walk. BakerTriangle used BIM and pre-fab to facilitate an early start on exterior wall panels that were framed in BT’s warehouse, shipped to the jobsite and flown into place with a crane. BIM was also utilized on the three-story feature wall to coordinate with Radius Track and the structural engineers to design a wall that would support the GFRG finish as well as the Pre-ticketing ceiling that received 3-Form panels. Gypsum Plaster and multiple layers of drywall were installed throughout the main performance hall to achieve the high level of acoustics needed for a top-level venue. Baswaphon ceilings were installed in all the main lobby areas on each level. BT also had to provide custom aluminum and stainless steel shapes at the elevators and GFRG openings on every level.
